Lunches & Food

Breakfast

As a school we are a supported by our local Tesco store to provide a slice of toast to every child each morning. As we believe a full tummy is important for the children to have a successful day, Tesco and the school equally contribute the cost of this.

Snack

All children at Bowlish receive a piece of fruit for their morning snack each day.

In England, the government provides free fruit and vegetables to children in state-funded schools through the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme (SFVS). This scheme is part of the broader "5 A DAY" program aimed at increasing fruit and vegetable consumption among children. Specifically, children aged 4-6 in state-funded infant, primary, and special schools receive a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school day.

The SFVS is funded by the Department of Health and aims to provide approximately 2.3 million children in around 16,600 schools with a daily portion of fruit or vegetables. The scheme supplies a variety of produce, including apples, pears, bananas, grapes, clementines, carrots, tomatoes, mini cucumbers, sweet peppers, raisins, sugar snap peas, and strawberries.

Lunch

In Somerset, all children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 (infant school) in state-funded schools are entitled to free school meals, regardless of their family's income. These are known as Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM). While registration is not required for UIFSM, parents of children in older year groups (Year 3 and above) may be eligible for free school meals if they meet specific criteria related to household income and benefits.
